
MANUEL O. NARVAEZ
1929 - 2005
Manuel O. Narvaez, during a long labor career as an organizer and civil rights coordinator, has dedicated his life to justice in the workplace and in the public schools.
After joining the United Steelworkers of America in 1952, he served in several leadership positions of USWA Local 4813, including president. He later became an International Representative and Sub-district Director for the USWA.
Brother Narvaez also organized in Texas for the Industrial Union Department of the AFL-CIO, and at one point served as Joint Board Manager of the Amalgamated Textile and Clothing Workers in El Paso.
As a former Civil Rights Coordinator for USWA District 37, Brother Narvaez is known for his significant achievement in winning a prolonged desegregation battle in the Corpus Christi public schools. He has been recognized statewide, nationally, and internationally for his efforts in education.
For his long devotion to the improvement of the human condition, Brother Manuel Narvaez truly deserves his place in the Texas Labor Hall of Fame.
