At Austin Rally, Texas AFL-CIO & Pro-Democracy Leaders Say NO to Trump Takeover of Texas’ Political Maps
AUSTIN, Texas — Today, hundreds of Texans gathered on the South Steps of the State Capitol to fight back against Gov. Greg Abbott and President Trump’s plan to rig our maps and lock in their political power.

"Greg Abbott is blatantly using this special session to push Trump’s political agenda in Texas, and workers aren’t going to fall for it," said Texas AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Aguilar. "This attack on Texans will have ripple effects across the country, and we’re calling on all of our leaders to do everything in their power to fight back."
The “Fight the Trump Takeover” rally brought together a broad coalition of progressive organizations, elected officials, and grassroots leaders committed to protecting fair representation for all Texans. Held just hours before the first of several controversial mid-decade redistricting hearings, attendees protested efforts to redraw congressional maps in ways that silence voters and entrench political power.
